The Hollywood Tower Hotel

The Hollywood Tower Hotel
The walls of the elevator shock and explode with white light and I fall and burn my arm on the striking surge of heat on the elevator wall.  The ground shook. Slamming the buttons on the elevator, I panicked.
“Help!”
The words explode through my lips but immediately get thrown under the sounds of a disastrous surge.
The pain through my charred arm is a defiable obstacle, but the elevator has a mind of it’s own.
“Nothing’s working!” I scream, knowing I have nothing to lose. I can’t fret how panicked the tone in my voice is.
Repeated snapping sounds shock my surroundings. Suddenly, the lights of the round elevator buttons shut off at once. No more flickering lights on those, but there are still shards of on and off light going through the air. No more connection between the controls and I, I have no idea what this disastrous elevator might do next. My legs are challenged to stand unbalanced on the elevator floor.
“What the hell.”
No one seems to hear me tonight.
“It will stop. It’s just stuck.” I speak to myself. I try to imagine a different scenario. It was just like an episode of the Twilight Zone.
This was not an ideal night in Hollywood. The rest of my family must be having a good time.
“Crash!”
Returning from the thoughts in the back of my mind, the noises interrupted. At this point, I feel sick. The vibrant movements that this machine is making are honestly getting irritating.
Another crash and then a sharp gliding sound. Almost like a fast car on the highway kind of sound, or a blade running against another surface. A cause and an effect; the two sounds; the one right after the other. But it wasn’t just the sounds, I’m falling.
“The elevator is falling.” I think.
The enormous box jerked and so did I. My stomach tickled and rose up as my hair whipped in the wind. There goes my hat.
It only happened for a second before it reached an overblown abrupt stop and I collapsed as my legs gave in to what gravity was doing. My body still shook as the elevator continued to convulse and spaz. My breath thudded out of me. My sweat trickled off of my shiny face. The drumming of my heart grew. Gradually coming out from the stop, the elevator squeaked and slid down the shaft. Snaps and sparks flew.
My body is compressed against the corner and I grasp onto the bar along the perimeter. The way I breathe and tremble through my headache and my burnt body is unfathomable.
There’s a pause. The sounds die down for a moment and so do my thoughts. I don’t comprehend the words flying through my head.
The flickers of light fade off. The body of the elevator releases from it’s cables and the box belongs to gravity now. Wind whips all around me, and we drop down the shaft, falling freely. Faster than light it seems.

Jews in Hidng

Jewish people were once a disgrace to Germans, and hiding from the malevolent Nazis was what some of the Jews had to do. Survival was difficult without it, but going into hiding meant lots of hardship for yourself, and for whoever was willing to help the jews. Many other different ways were also used to hide their Jewish identity; people pretended to be Christian, they had false identity papers made, and Nazis even checked the men’s genital areas to see if they were circumcised (most jews were circumcised at birth and some men dressed as women to hide it). Getting caught in hiding, or hiding people meant trouble for most. Nazis were on the hunt for jews in hiding, and neighbors would rat out people who are hiding jews to the Nazis for money. When World War ll ended in 1945, 6 million jews were being killed, and a portion of them took big risks and went in hiding.

Collage/Color Poem

Thin shards of sunshine fly across my face as the plane jumps off the ground.
Florida is waiting for me, eager and joyful, just like I.
The orange light shines for the entire roller coaster ride to Florida.
Joy and fulfillment fills all the empty space in my head.
All my past emotions have vanished and my mind is set on one thing...Disney World.

Precepts That Represent Us

“Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much.” - Blaise Pascal

“It’s not enough to be friendly. You have to be a good friend.” - Charlotte Cody

In the story, August demonstrated the Blaise Pascal precept. He used kind words all year just because that is who he is, and at the end of the year, not only did he get a big award for greatness, and kindness, but he also changed the minds of a whole lot of 5th graders with the help of his new best friends. Summer and Jack accepted Auggie for who he was and encouraged him to do things that got him where he was at the end of the year. Julian demonstrated the Charlotte Cody precept. He seemed a tad bit friendly at the end of summer when he was giving August a tour, but when school started he was treating August in a way that no one should ever be treated. Jack also demonstrated this precept, since he was being extremely friendly to August at the beginning of the school year, but August overheard him talking bad about him on Halloween, which was not being a good friend at all.

“Your deeds are your monuments.” - Inscription on an Egyptian tomb

This Egyptian tomb precept is important to me and my life because I always like to think that what I choose to do, will affect my reputation. I remember hearing about what my reputation could turn out to be in elementary school, and ever since that, I kept it in my head. Now, I always think that my good deeds can affect the way that people look at me, just like how a monument represents the remembrance of a famous person or event.

How interesting is South America in my opinion?

The most interesting thing that I learned about South America is probably how many people live in these places. There’s over a million people living in the Atacama desert and I really give them credit for making a living in that harsh environment, the same goes for the animals too. Even penguins live in the arid desert. Also, I think it is interesting how the Amazon rainforest has different groups of people and so many different animals living there.
